RAWALPINDI:

The Foreign Office on Wednesday informed an anti-terrorism court that American lobbyist Mark Siegel, a key prosecution witness against former President Pervez Musharraf in the Benazir Bhutto murder case, will be available for cross-examination on January 20, 2016.

A representative of the Foreign Office submitted a report in the court of Special Judge Muhammad Ayub Marth saying that Siegel would be available at the Pakistani embassy in Washington, DC for cross-examination via videoconference.

In the previous hearing, the court dismissed an application filed by Musharraf to exclude Siegel’s testimony. Musharraf’s lawyers would now cross-examine the former journalist on January 20.

In his testimony, Siegel had said that Benazir Bhutto told him about threatening calls she received from Musharraf when she was planning to return to Pakistan in 2007.

The US lobbyist had also claimed that Musharraf did not provide the security that Bhutto deserved as a former prime minister.

The next hearing is scheduled for December 7.
