PML-N MNA wants SC to cancel ‘fake’ FIR

Claims report filed to pressurise him into withdrawing his complaint

ISLAMABAD: The head of Pakistan’s Hindu Council has approached the Supreme Court urging it to cancel a fake FIR registered against him and his relatives after an attack.

The Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML-N) MNA and PHC Patron in Chief Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani in his application filed before the apex court, said that around 50 armed men opened fire on his car near his residence on November 19 as some men hijacked polling booths in two wards to forcefully stamp ballots in their favour.

Dr Vankwani, who owns a bulletproof car and has a court mandated police cordon, survived the attack.

After the ordeal, he claimed that the police initially refused to register an FIR of the incident. It was after he approached Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the latter intervened in the matter that the police registered his complaint on November 21.

Lamenting that no action was taken against the attackers, Dr Vankwani claimed that a counter FIR was registered against five of his relatives just to pressurise him into withdrawing the complaint

Dr Vankwani, who represents the PML-N in the lower house of parliament, said that he had approached the provincial authorities to have the fake FIR cancelled, but to no avail.

The PML-N MNA has requested the SC to summon the chief secretary, deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, assistant commissioner, DSP and SHO of the area and direct them to cancel the fake FIR against his relatives. He also pleaded the SC to direct for re-polls in the two wards.

The top court is expected to hear the case on December 2.
