Barisal Bulls condemned Chittagong Vikings to their fourth loss in five games with a 33-run win over the home side at Chittagong’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Chittagong skipper Tamim Iqbal won the toss and decided to bowl first. The decision seemed to be the right one as the Bulls were pegged back immediately.

Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan dismissed Evin Lewis in the first over before Pakistani left-armer Mohammad Amir continued his superb run of form by trapping Rony Talukdar in front of the stumps in the second over. Sabbir Rahman soon followed to make it 12-3 for the struggling visitors.

However, skipper Mahmudullah (51 off 45 balls) and Mehedi Maruf (28 off 25) steadied the ship before Seekkuge Prasanna provided the burst later on with a 20-ball 36.

Kevon Cooper (21 off 11) and Mohammad Sami (nine off four) also played unbeaten cameos to take their side to an impressive 170-7.

Amir was the pick of the bowlers with 20-2 in his four overs.

Vikings also lost early wickets in reply but were unable to steady the ship like the Bulls batsmen had done earlier on.

Tamim, who had been in impressive form, fell in the second over before former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal was run out on a golden duck; found short of his ground by a direct hit when he would have been in had he ground his bat.

Wickets kept falling for the hosts and they eventually fell 33 runs short.

Cooper also impressed with the ball as he finished with 3-28 in his four overs to claim the man of the match.
