Singer Adele revealed that witnessing the tragic decline of late artist Amy Winehouse has left her frightened of fame, reported IANS.

The 27-year-old singer shared in her blog that Winehouse’s troubled death in 2011 drove home the dangers of living in the spotlight. “People think I hate being famous. I don’t. I’m really frightened of it. Watching Amy deteriorate is one of the reasons I’m a bit frightened. We were all very entertained by her being a mess,” said Adele.

“I was really sad about it but if someone showed me a picture of her looking bad, I’d look at it. That level of attention is frightening,” she added.

Adele’s comeback album 25 scaled the summit of iTunes India charts just hours after its global release last week. Backed by Universal, 25 is the follow-up to Adele’s 21, which for 24 weeks was at the top position on the Billboard 200 chart, reported the Official Charts Company.

Her third studio album sold 800,307 copies, compared with the rock band Oasis’ previous record of 696,000 with Be Here Now, and amassed more sales than the last 19 No 1 albums in Britain combined. It also became the most downloaded No 1 album ever, reported Reuters.

“The statistics surrounding the album are staggering, topped by the simple fact that no album has ever sold 800,000 copies to reach Number 1 in the history of British music,” said the Charts Company’s Chief Executive Martin Talbot.

Adele, who also broke the single-week US album sales record in just four days with 25, announced on Thursday she would begin a 15-week concert tour of Britain, Ireland and continental Europe in February, her first tour in four years.

Elsewhere in the album charts, Elvis Presley was second with the If I Can Dream compilation while Justin Bieber’s Purpose was third.

Madonna was the last act to occupy the top two positions simultaneously back in 1985 with Into the Groove and Holiday. Bieber’s single Sorry smashed the UK singles chart with Love Yourself second and What do you Mean fourth. Adele was third with Hello.
