Red carpet roundup: The hot and not so hot at BFAs

British Fashion Awards to feature a parade of the most fashionable on its red carpet

LAHORE:

We used to bank on the British Fashion Awards to feature a parade of the most fashionable on its red carpet. Celebrity A-listers seem to pull out all the stops for this London event, which is not surprising given the roster of stars in attendance. But this time around, the event featured more misses than hits. While some shone through, others got it oh-so-wrong, with their style statements going awfully awry.

Kate Bosworth

The natural beauty and usually impeccably dressed Bosworth looked like a hot mess in in a patchwork pale blue chiffon dress by Erdem. From sheer sleeves to the panelling, to the seams lined with buttons, to the diagonal waterfall layering and black ribbon collar, the dress had too much going on. We can see the actor tried to balance it out with hair sleekly tied back but that dress had no redeeming quality. It looked like she had refashioned her grandmothers’ prom dress for one of the most fashionable nights in London.

Fiery on the red carpet: The bold and the beautiful

Cheryl Fernandez Versini

The English singer stepped out in a sheer, sequinned ensemble with a thigh-high slit and over-the-knees boots. The embellishment on this custom Topshop design was not bad on its own. However, coupled with heavily embroidered thigh-high boots, the dress could bag Versini the title of the worst dressed at the BFAs. Too much detailing is not a great look and adding a clutch and necklace to that made it even harder to let it pass as fashion-forward.

Bang-on trend: Radiating in red on the red carpet

Victoria Beckham

Victoria cut a chic figure in the fitted tuxedo with cropped trousers and three-quarter sleeves. She put her hair in a messy bun and accentuated her look with a pair of stilettos. Letting her style shine through by keeping colour-blocking at bay, she slipped a black top underneath and maintained the subtlety of the look. The 41-year-old mother of four looked incredible with her football icon husband on her arm. The couple sported coordinated suits, shunning the usual red-carpet brouhaha in favour of a polished look.
