Court orders customs officials to return Ayyan's passport

Court directs supermodel to submit two surety bonds of Rs1 million each and personal guarantee that she will return

A court in Rawalpindi directed customs officials to handover supermodel Ayyan’s passport back to her, Express News reported on Wednesday.

Accepting Ayyan’s plea for the return of her passport, the court directed the model to submit two surety bonds worth Rs1 million each and a personal guarantee that she will return to the country to face the ongoing probe against her in a money laundering case.



The model had filed a plea saying she wants to continue with her modelling assignments abroad which she had earlier signed with various organisations.

Earlier this month, a customs court in Rawalpindi indicted supermodel Ayyan in a money laundering case which was previously deferred a number of times. 


According to reports, the court while rejecting the objections raised by the counsel of the accused said the proceedings in the case will be carried out subsequently.



The model, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges of money laundering and said she would defend herself against the case in which she has been purposefully implicated.

Ayyan was arrested by Customs officials from Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad on March 14 after US $506,800 was recovered from her luggage. She was taken to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. However, she was later released on July 16 after spending four months in the Adiala Jail.



While in custody, Ayyan made headlines numerous times for everything from ‘VIP treatment’ to ‘transforming the atmosphere’ at Adiala jail. Her judicial remand was extended 16 times before she finally secured bail.
