Trio score half-centuries against Hyderabad on first day of round three

KARACHI: Half-centuries by Taufeeq Umar, Imran Butt and Imran Khalid enabled SNGPL to post 331 on the opening day of their Pool A fixture against Hyderabad at the Niaz Stadium in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy’s third round on Monday.

Taufeeq scored 67 runs, Butt struck 58 and Khalid contributed 51 in SNGPL’s first innings, with Hyderabad’s Hazrat Shah bagging three wickets and Kashif Bhatti and Babar Khan picking up two scalps each. At the end of play, Hyderabad were 4-0 after two overs.

At the Gaddafi Stadium, Shan Masood scored 70 runs and Umair Khan remained unbeaten on 57 to help UBL reach 176-2 as Lahore Blues’ Muhammad Saeed took both wickets.

Meanwhile, Akbar Badshah’s 53 and Israrullah’s 48 runs guided Peshawar to 217-6 against SSGC, while Tabish Khan took three wickets.

Islamabad reached 123-3 against Port Qasim with Abid Ali (58) and Shahid Yousaf (36) at the crease as only 35 overs could be played at the Diamond Ground in Islamabad.

In a Pool B fixture, Karachi Whites were playing without skipper Faisal Iqbal and lost seven wickets for 166 runs against NBP. Saad Ali (60) and Jaahid Ali (47) were the highest scorers for Karachi Whites, while NBP’s Ziaul Haq dismissed four batsmen.

In the other three rain-hit matches, Lahore Whites reached 104-1 after 39 overs with the help of Mukhtar Ahmed (49), while Sami Aslam was batting on 40 at the LCCA Ground.

Fata reached 106-5 after 56 overs against KRL with Fawad Khan and Rehan Afridi scoring 26 and 21 runs respectively, while KRL’s Muhammad Abbas captured three wickets.

Rawalpindi managed to score 49-2 against HBL as only 12.1 overs’ play was possible on the first day. Babar Naeem (22) and Naved Yasin (18) were on the crease, while Umar Gul took the two wickets.
