Viral video: ‘Policeman’ who slapped woman granted bail

The victim and her family have refused to get her medical examination conducted

A judicial magistrate granted on Saturday bail to a law enforcement volunteer, who was caught on camera slapping a woman in public.


The Clifton police had arrested Ali Akbar, a personnel of Police Qaumi Razakar, on October 28 in Hijrat Colony as provincial authorities took notice after a video showing a woman being slapped apparently by him went viral on the social media.

On the following day, the court remanded the suspect into police custody.

During Saturday's hearing, the investigation officer informed the court, however, that the victim and her family have refused to get her medical examination conducted.

The South judicial magistrate, Imran Imam Zaidi, granted bail to the suspect against a surety bond of Rs30,000. The police said that the incident had taken place at Gulf shopping centre in Clifton on Muharram 7 and the woman subjected to torture in the video was accused of theft.
