KARACHI: The Trade Development Authority (TDAP) is encouraging companies to benefit from the new economic realities in the Russian Federation, said chief executive SM Muneer during a meeting with the Russian Consul General Oleg N Avdeev at the TDAP office on Friday.

The Russian Consul General and representatives discussed the outcomes of a trade delegation’s recent visit to Russia.

Muneer informed the guests that TDAP wanted Pakistani companies to benefit from the new economic realities in Russian Federation, in order to increase the export volume of agricultural products like fruits, vegetables and meat, as Russia was consciously striving to replace its food imports from the EU countries.

He further apprised the consul general of the problems faced by Pakistani exporters regarding high duties charged by authorities and the difficulty in getting business visas for Pakistani businessmen.

Consul General Avdeev assured the TDAP members that they would provide maximum facilitation to Pakistan businessmen.

“Trade between Pakistan and Russia is being done indirectly, they send their products through other countries due to non-existence of banking channels,” said Avdeev.

Both sides agreed that the volume of bilateral trade could be increased by opening branches of Russian banks in Pakistan and vice versa. Both parties also agreed on participating in international exhibitions and exchange delegations.
