Jahangir urges PSA to do more for Pakistan

CAS international squash event concludes with Egyptian Abouleghar’s win

KARACHI: Six-time squash world champion and legend Jahangir Khan has urged the Professional Squash Association (PSA) to do more for Pakistan squash after the Serena Hotels-Chief of the Air Staff International Squash Championship concluded successfully with Egypt’s Mohamed Abouleghar emerging as the champion.

Abouleghar, who is ranked 38th in the PSA rankings, beat compatriot Omar Abdel Meguid 3-2 in the decider at the Mushaf Squash Complex in Islamabad.

The match lasted for 78 minutes as Abouleghar won with scores of 7-11, 11-9, 13-11, 6-11, 11-9.

Jahangir said that since it was the second international event with foreign participants that concluded safely in 12 months’ time, the PSA should go ahead and give Pakistan bigger competitions with prize money of over $25,000 as well.

“It’s time the PSA stands up and takes notice that the security situation has improved in the country and it should give Pakistan bigger competitions of over $25,000 as well,” Jahangir told The Express Tribune.

Jahangir added, “All foreign players enjoyed their visit to the country, so their positive feedback would also be a great help. The PSA can ask top players of the world to come and play in Pakistan, but that would only be possible if events with bigger prize money and more points are on the offer.”

Apart from Jahangir, other dignitaries who witnessed the final were Air Marshal Saeed Muhammad Khan, CEO Serena Hotels Aziz Boolani, legends Qamar Zaman, Jansher Khan and Gogi Allauddin.
