Pakistan quartet reach squash quarter-finals

Nasir, Mehboob, Tayyab, Israr progress in CAS International Championship

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Nasir Iqbal, Farhan Mehboob, Tayyab Aslam and Israr Ahmad reached the quarter-finals of the 2015 Chief of Air Staff International Squash Championship at the Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad on Saturday.

Nasir defeated compatriot Khawaja Adil Maqbool 11-1,11-7,11-4, while Farhan overcame former Pakistan number two Danish Atlas 7-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-4  in 46 minutes as Tayyab outplayed Saqib Yousaf 11-6, 11-3, 11-7 and Israr edged past Shahjahan Khan 11-9, 11-7, 11-4 to qualify for the last-eight.

Egypt’s Omar Abdel Meguid defeated Mehboob’s sibling Waqar 11-5, 11-5, 12-10, with the other three players from Egypt also recording wins.

Karim Al Fathi downed Australia’s Aqeel Rehman 11-5, 11-3, 11-8 with Mohamed Abouelghar triumphing 11-1, 11-5, 11-4 against Kashif Asif in just 18 minutes, while Shehab Essam braved a five-game match against New Zealand’s Lance Beddoes for 58 minutes and eventually emerged the victor with scores of 8-11, 11-6, 5-11, 11-2, 11-6.
