ISLAMABAD: After an encounter with the carjackers, the city police claimed to have recovered a stolen car and arrested one of the gang members. However, the other three managed to escape the scene.

According to police, a Suzuki Mehran was stolen from sector I-8/3 on Wednesday evening. Later, the location of the car was traced with the help of the trackers fixed in the car.

The Koral Police were informed that the car was heading towards Koral Chowk to exit the city. “The Expressway exiting city at the Koral Chowk junction was blocked with the help of a truck,” said the Station House Officer Koral Sajjad Bukhari.

On finding their way blocked, the carjackers opened fire at the police and after a brief exchange, three of the carjackers managed to flee from the place.

Muhammad Yousaf, the arrested suspect, revealed during the initial investigations that Mairaj Khan was the leader of their gang who had managed to escape along with his two accomplices, Ghaniur Rehman and Wahab Khan.

The suspect said the stolen car was being transported to a safe house for delivery into the black market.
