Import Substitution: PARC promotes soya bean plantation

Narc Director General said that Parc would provide certified seeds of soya bean plant for the enhancement of the crop

ISLAMABAD: The Oilseeds Research Programme of Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (Parc) has planted seed multiplication blocks of soya bean on 200 acres at the National Agriculture Research Council (Narc) farm. Narc Director General Dr Azeem Khan said that Parc would provide certified seeds of soya bean plant for the enhancement of the crop. “Soybean is one of the most valuable crops in the world as an oil seed crop and feed for livestock and aquaculture,” Khan said in a statement. He said rapid soybean demand has increased in the last three decades due to rapidly growing poultry industry. “Last year 650 tons of soy meal was imported valuing $364 million,” he added. In addition to soy meal, he said $50 million are spent on import of soya oil.
