ISLAMABAD:

Law enforcement agencies should swiftly push their viewpoint in the media after any terror attack to deny terrorists space, said Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid in Islamabad on Thursday.

The minister told a group of police officials that media was part of the solution, not the problem.

He emphasised on the need to protect media houses so that they can show the true face of Pakistan’s enemies. However, he noted that media needed training to properly cover acts of terror.

Rashid said that media was part of the solution in the war against terror, not the problem.

He said that terror acts should not be called ‘tragic incidents’, rather they should be termed as barbaric and inhuman acts.

Rashid, appreciating the role of police, said that officers perform their duties in very difficult circumstances.

The minister urged the people to donate money and sacrificial hides to those organizations which work for the welfare of the society.

He urged media, Ulema and other government institutions to play their due role educating people on the dangers of donating money to the wrong charity organizations, adding that it was vital to strangle funds for terrorists.

During the two-day workshop at the National Police Academy, police officers were trained on handling media crisis, strategic communication and media engagement to counter-terrorism.
