KARACHI: Sindh Transportation Minister Mumtaz Jakhrani and Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman have reached a consensus to regularise and restore Qingqi and CNG rickshaws as per the directives of the apex court. In a meeting on Thursday, the two officials agreed that a mass transit system is necessary to cater to the needs of transportation of residents and, until that is done, rickshaws can be an alternative. They also stressed the need for restoration of green buses and circular railway. Rehman said the ban on Qingqi rickshaws has rendered around five million people of a cheap means of transportation and deprived thousands of people of their livelihood. Jakhrani also informed the JI delegation that consultations on the issue have been completed among the relevant stakeholders and a report will be presented before the court on September 17.
