The staff and faculty of the Government College University (GCU) had arranged a walk on the campus to pay tribute to Pakistan Army for rendering great sacrifices for the country’s defence. Vice Chancellor Hassan Amir Shah led the walk.
Shah said Pakistan was a peace-loving country and did not seek wars. “However, we also believe in honour and dignity. We are making our defence strong to protect the country’s sovereignty.”
“The GCU has the honour of being the alma mater of many brave soldiers, including Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and Major Shabbir Sharif, a recipient of the country’s top military award Nishan-i-Haider,” the vice chancellor said.
Earlier, at a ceremony in Bokahri Auditorium, the faculty and staff observed a one-minute silence in memory of the war martyrs. Hamza Shahbaz, Osama Babar, Zubair Ali, Qasim Ali, Aqib Javed, Ali Haider, Sajjad Ali, Ammant Ali and Taimoor Azmat from the GCU Nazir Ahmed Music Society presented national songs.
The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences arranged a Quran khwani, a flag-hoisting ceremony, a walk, a seminar, speeches and national songs to mark the day.
Vice Chancellor Talat Naseer Pasha hoisted the national flag at the City campus.
Pasha later led a walk and chaired a seminar on sacrifices rendered by the armed forces.
“Our armed forces are capable of dealing with internal and external challenges faced by the country,” Government College University, Faisalabad, Vice Chancellor Muhammad Ali said. He was speaking at a ceremony on the campus in connection with the Defence Day. Teachers and students of the Islamia University, Bahawalpur, attended a ceremony at Yadgar-i-Shuhda in Bahawalpur garrison.
