Bilawal, who has camped in Naudero House since Wednesday, held detailed meetings with PPP activists from Sukkur, Ghotki and Khairpur. The young leader held meetings with the leaders and workers of Larkana division the other day.
According to PPP sources, these meetings focused on carving out strategies for the upcoming local bodies elections. Bilawal repeatedly directed PPP leaders to shun their differences and work for the larger interest of the party. Sans unity you cannot mobilise the people, he said.
PPP leadership is split in factions in many cities. In Sukkur, the party is divided between the camps of Senator Islamuddin Shaikh and Leader of the Opposition Khursheed Ahmed Shah. The grudges run so deep that Bilawal held separate meetings of PPP Sukkur city and district. Similarly in Ghotki, there are differences between MPA Ahmed Ali Pitafi and Mahar brothers.
Party sources claim that intra-party frictions consumed most of the time in the meetings instead of local bodies elections. Local leadership told Bilawal that PPP had lost many seats during the general elections of 2013, because of internal conflict.
Media talk
Later briefing the media, Senior Minister Nisar Khuhro said the PPP was expecting a landslide victory in LG polls. “We are ready to go into the local bodies’ elections and are hopeful of landslide victory.”
On a question about Imran’s visit to Sindh, he said, it makes no difference for the PPP. “Future of those who left the PPP and joined PTI is bleak,” he claimed. He made it clear that the PPP will go into local bodies elections “if these are held on party basis, because we have made all the arrangements to contest elections as a party.”
