Disciplinary action: PTI to give Azam Swati, Yasin Khalil the boot

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak vows to name ‘bigwigs’ involved in LG mismanagement.

After much hue and cry over the alleged violation of party discipline and local government legislation by workers of major political parties during the nazim, naib nazim elections, heads have begun to roll all around.

The floodgates have been opened by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf that has served membership cancellation notices to numerous party activists, including figureheads Senator Azam Swati and MPA Yasin Khalil. The announcements were made during Chief Minister Pervez Khattak’s press conference in the city on Wednesday. Khattak said both Azam and Khalil will be sacked from the party and the election commission will decide upon their cases within 30 days. “We will not be able to enforce discipline within our ranks if we do not take action against them,” he said.

The chief minister also vowed to name all those involved in the mismanagement. “Once the LG setups are sorted, I will initiate action against all such officials,” said Khattak, adding “big names are involved in the irregularities.”

Also talking on the occasion, PTI K-P Organiser Fazal Khan said the actions of both Azam and Khalil harmed the party’s interests.

“We did not give the Mansehra nazim ticket to Azam’s nephew Shehryar Khan Swati yet he contested and as a result, PTI lost the seat. Azam was backing Shehryar.” Fazal said the party has asked Azam to explain his position, failing which he will be sacked from PTI.

“Khalil played a similar role in Peshawar Town-III.” The K-P organiser said the party has also issued notices to 10 councillor-elects of the town who either did not show up for the nazim, naib nazim elections or voted of their own accord.

No respite

Similarly in Karak’s Takht-e-Nasrati tehsil, 4 councillor-elects refrained from casting ballots on Sunday. “In Buner, 11 of our councillors voted against the party candidate. They have all been asked for explanations. We lost the district nazim seat because of this act,” said Fazal. He added action has also been initiated against two women, elected on reserved seats in Malakand.

Abbottabad nazim Sher Bahadur Khan has also been served a notice because the party’s official nominee Ali Khan Jadoon lost the seat to the former who is also a party activist. “Abbottabad’s 11 councillors have been served with notices.”

Fazal said the respondents will be required to respond within a week.

“More names will be added to the list since enquiry in several areas is still under way.”

The notices have been served under Article 78(A) of K-P LG (Amendment) Act 2015 [disqualification on grounds of defection].

Mamu | 8 years ago | Reply @Imran Qadri: Your comment doesnot carry any worth as you are biased. Imran Khan had given the mandate to justice Wajih to find out irregularities in Elections. Which he did. And re-elections were decided. Here the duty of Wajih gets over, but he went out of his jurisdiction and said that he will decide what next steps to take. SO mind it, IK does not need the Jets and vehicles. He can very well support himself. It is Nawaz shareef who has got sugar mills, itifaq foundry and flats in the most expensive parts of London.

riaz ahmed | 8 years ago | Reply Imran Khan taught us to stand for your right and we exactly did so in Abbottabad. where was the party discipline when PTI gave ticket of tehsil nazim to Iftikhar Khan who contested election against PTI ticket holder sikandar azam khan and as a result PMLN won. where was the party discipline when Ali khan jadoon (PTI ticket holder of district nazim abbottabad) supported wajid khan jadoon against the party ticket holder in cant board elections. where was the merit when party gave the ticket for vice chairman cant abbottabad to zulfiqar ali an illiterate while shah faisal deserved the ticket. WHEN INJUSTICE BECOMES LAW RESISTANCE BECOMES DUTY.

Imran Qadri | 8 years ago | Reply @mukhtar Long list of PTI leader's got their next of kins elected in local bodies elections. If they are acceptable then why blame these guys if they too try to get their relatives elected on LG seats. Double standard and U turns of PTI are quite obvious, one set of rules for blue eyed members while other set of rules applicable on members that are not in goof books. Just take example of justice Wajih, he pointed out corrupt elements in party but Imran instead sided with corrupt and rich coz they finance Imran's misadventures like dharna etc and his bullet proof vehicles, private jet, helicopter trips etc..

osman | 8 years ago | Reply The KPK LG act 2013 was first passed on 5th Nov 2013. The LG polls were held on 30th may 2015 and the result announced on 7th june 2015. According to ECP the final list of all elected candidates and those on reserved seats was issued on 17th August 2015. Note that the amendment in the 2013 act and insertion of section 78a also took place the same day. Few members of opposition opposed this because this was presented in the nick of time for passage and this practice is against the parliament norms as the members do not get to read the bill and give suggestions. Now my question is that when does an amendment in any act commence to have effect? this act came into force after all candidates were elected. so is this act legally binding. i belong to one of the above mentioned districts and the local pti representatives in power ignored the majority workers and also the founding members of pti during the nomination of nazims and naib nazims. with this amendment it looks like they are trying to force everyone to vote against their will. They talk about merit but then on the other hand make decisions against the will of their own workers and ideology of pti.
