WASHINGTON: The state of Missouri executed a man on Tuesday night for taking part in a kidnapping and murder decades ago, local media reported.

Roderick Nunley, 50, was convicted for his role in the kidnap, rape and killing of a 15-year-old girl near Kansas City in 1989.

After lengthy appeals, Nunley was put to death by lethal injection, local TV station KMBC reported.

Nunley confessed to the crime, as did partner Michael Taylor who has already been put to death.

The killing is the 20th execution in the United States this year, almost all of which took place in either Texas or Missouri.

KMBC reported that Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster spoke out on the execution, saying people were frustrated with how long it took to put convicts to death.

"Nunley's case offers a textbook example showing why society is so frustrated with a system that has become too cumbersome," Koster said.
