Sweeping action: Police arrest hundreds, recover millions

In the last fortnight, police have arrested 345 criminals and recovered Rs20m

Police have arrested 345 criminals in the last fortnight and have recovered from their possession stolen goods including six vehicles, nine bikes, 42 pistols, 152 wine bottles, 17 kilograms hashish and 1.5 kilogram of opium, and valuables worth over Rs19.7 million.

Inspector-General (IG) Tahir Alam Khan has directed the force to make all efforts to ensure the protection of lives and property of citizens, said a press release. The IG also directed all police officials to take action against criminals.

The police chief also directed for increased efforts against those involved in bootlegging and drug pushing, adding that arresting proclaimed offenders and court absconders should also be ensured.

Police arrested 54 persons for possessing illegal weapons and recovered 42 pistols, four rifles, nine carbines and 346 rounds of ammunition from them. Similarly, 38 drug peddlers and bootleggers were held and 152 wine bottles, over 17 kilogrammes of hashish, over 1.5 kilogrammes of heroin and 1.5 kilogrammes of opium were recovered.

A total of 31 auto-thieves were arrested in the last fortnight, with six vehicles and nine motorcycles recovered.

Likewise, 46 thieves, 74 dacoits, 41 proclaimed offenders were also arrested, and recoveries of valuables worth millions were made from their possession.

During the same period, 325 professional alm-seekers were held while 14 children were shifted to a child care centre. In addition, ten search operations were conducted and 42 suspects held. Five illegal immigrants and six extortionists were nabbed, while 24 persons were apprehended for involvement in immoral activities.
