KARACHI:

At least three members of a family drowned while picnicking at the Manora beach in Karachi on Sunday.

Rescue teams recovered the bodies of the three, while two more were still missing. A family arrived at Manora beach for a picnic from Nazimabad where, while bathing, two - 31-year-old Moazzam and Alam, 61- drowned while swimming in the sea. Seeing them struggle, at least four of their family members jumped into the sea in an attempt to rescue them.

Rescue workers recovered the bodies of three - Moazzam, Badar and Talha - and were able to save another family member, Bilal. They said that the remaining two remained missing, while efforts to recover them were underway.  ASP Bilal Qayyum confirmed that three people drowned, while one was rescued and that the search for the remaining two was still underway. The bodies of the victims were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and later handed over to their family for burial.
