HYDERABAD:

Five members of a family drowned in River Indus in Nawabshah on Friday. The deceased have been identified as Zulifqar Magsi, 45, and his two sons, Gulzar Magsi, 18, and eight-year-old Dilbar Magsi, and his two nephews, seven-year-old Abdul Sami Magsi and five-year-old Hammad Magsi.

The family belonged to Lal Khan Magsi village near Nawabshah and had come to visit the embankment near Aamri bridge, said a police official. Dilbar was the first to fall in the river. His brother and cousins tried to pull him out but they too fell one after another. Finally, Zulfiqar jumped in the water to rescue them but he also drowned.

The local divers, two of whom also drowned before being rescued, pulled out the bodies of Dilbar, Abdul and Zulfiqar soon after the incident. But it took Pakistan Navy divers hours to find the bodies of Hammad and Gulzar.
