The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced August 31 as the last date for salaried persons and September 30 for non-salaried persons for filing tax returns. The deadlines are for all existing and new tax return filers, an official of the FBR said on Tuesday.
He said the FBR was committed to broadening the tax net and strengthening the national economy by enhancing the tax-to-gross domestic product ratio. It collected Rs140 billion in taxes in the first month of current fiscal year 2015-16.
The official said the July figure was 6% higher compared to the same month of the previous year when Rs133 billion was collected. The revenue board has decided to issue tax notices to those non-compliant persons who have not submitted their tax files.
According to the official, the FBR’s administrative reforms are gradually leading to improvement in the tax structure and revenue collection.
