ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Tuesday that wicket-keeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed is likely to lead the Pakistan A team in the series against England Lions to be played in the UAE this December.

"If Sarfraz does not have any commitment with the national team in December then he will be tried as captain against England Lions," said a PCB official.

He said the PCB has scheduled many tours for Pakistan A team to groom the young talented players of the nation.

"A pool of 52 players has been formed who will be tested in all three formats. This year in December England Lions will tour UAE for five list A, five T20 and two day matches," he said.

He said by organizing the A team tours PCB will come to know the talent in the players.

"We will be able to see which players are suitable for the national team on short-term and long-term basis," he said.

He said according to the PCB plan, players between 18 to 20 years will be included in the third batch of players to be groomed.

Speaking about the national team, he said a total of 15 T20 matches will be played by the Pakistan cricket team before 2016 T20 World Cup in India.

"We have also asked the PCB international department to organize more and more international tours for the teams," he said.

He said there are also chances that in order to groom the future T20 captain Sarfraz will be given a chance to lead the green-shirts in the series against Zimbabwe.

Pakistan will tour Zimbabwe for three Twenty20 matches and three ODIs between September 24 and October 5. As per the current schedule, the T20 matches will be played first, starting September 26, while the three ODIs will be played in the first week of October.

Raza | 8 years ago | Reply Sarfaraz should never captain Pakistan A side and stick to the national team as long as he can. This in itself is a conspiracy. Waqar Younis would have captained Pakistan A at sarfaraz's age? This move is to degrade his worth. How can a permanent player be asked to go to the A side?
