Development: Dera Ghazi Khan’s tribal areas to get improved water supply

A comprehensive water supply system will be installed in tribal areas of Dera Ghazi Khan, Tribal Area Development Project Director Tahir Khurshid said on Friday.


He was talking to newsmen after a meeting to review development projects in tribal areas. He said the government had approved 62 developmental schemes for Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur districts. He said Rs70 million had been allocated for the developmental schemes.

He said turbines, tube wells, water supply lines and deep wells would be installed for the purpose.

He said 1,180 solar power systems would be distributed among villages. Khan said 567 people would be trained to operate and repair the solar power systems.

The project director said the government wanted to improve living conditions of the people living tribal areas.

He said identification of water sources, construction of dykes and ponds had begun.

Khan said some of the tribal areas did not have grid electricity. “The government will address this issue as soon as possible,” he said.

He said areas without electricity would be given solar panels.

He said 4,500 people would be given solar panels by the end of this year.

Khan said work on a 143-kilometre road in the tribal areas had begun.

He said a Rs262 million grant had been approved for its construction.

He said 16 development projects had been completed on DG Khan’s tribal areas. “The remaining will be completed in two months,” he said. Khan said Rs18 million had been provided for technical education involving 136 students.

He said Rs18.5 million had been spent on solar power systems provided at Border Military Police check posts. He said 26 health centres were being upgraded.
