ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum (PBIF) President and former provincial minister Mian Zahid Hussain, while lauding government’s efforts to increase power production, has demanded equal attention towards electricity transmission and distribution (T&D) network. He said the fragile T&D network is hampering the provision of available electricity and limiting distribution of energy generated by new and old power plants. “T&D network is mainstay of the power system but many former government have totally ignored this critical sector which has resulted in the wastage of electricity worth Rs180 billion per annum,” he said. He said that transmission policy of 1995 could not attract investors but the transmission line policy of 2014 had improved after amendment in 2015 which may prove fruitful. “Allocation of over Rs45 billion to NTDC in the recent budget should immediately be used for upgrading infrastructure, lest it  compromises the ability of coal, LNG, wind, solar and other power projects and dishearten investors.
