LAHORE:

Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq said on Monday the government had failed to provide appropriate health facilities to people.

“Billions of rupees from the public exchequer are spent on the treatment of government leaders but government hospitals are ignored,” Haq said during his visit to the Al-Khidmat Mansoora Teaching Hospital. He said that on coming to power, the JI would provide free treatment for major diseases.

The JI chief said the government had not taken effective steps to deal with epidemics following heavy rains and floods in various parts of the country.

“Treatment of heart disease, cancer and hepatitis is out of the reach of the poor.” He said the government should provide resources to the poor in this regard.

Haq also condemned the desecration of Masjid Al-Aqsa by the Israeli army and police. He expressed concern over the treatment meted out to those offering prayers there.
