Imambargah's trustee gunned down in Karachi

A social worker killed in Pak Colony, while police recover four bodies from Abdul Hassan Ispahani Road

KARACHI: The trustee of an Imambargah was gunned down in within the limits of PIB Colony police station on Saturday. A social worker was also killed in a different part of the city in a separate incident.

Raees Ahmed Jafri, 50, son of Khalil Ahmed Jafri, was shot dead in Morton Quarters, within the limits of PIB Colony police station.

He was shot at least three times and died on the spot. His body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy before being handed over to his family for burial process.

DSP Nasir Lodhi said that the deceased was the trustee of an Imambargah in Rizvia Society. He added that the deceased was named in a couple of cases in addition to being included in the fourth schedule.

The official said that Jafri was killed when he was travelling to the Central Jail when unidentified armed motorcyclists ambushed him near Morton Quarters and shot him.

DSP Lodhi added that they were trying to draw up a sketch of the attackers, adding that one of the assailants wore helmet during the attack.

No case has been registered so far while further investigations are underway.

Earlier in the day, a social worker was shot dead in an act of target killing in Jahanabad area, within the limits of Pak Colony police station.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Majeed, 42, son of Abdul Amin.

He was shot multiple times and died at the spot. His body was taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

SHO Aslam Baloch said that as per witnesses, the deceased used to live in Lashari neighbourhood of Pak Colony. As the victim was returning home, some unidentified armed men riding on a motorcycle shot and killed him.

The motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.

Separately, police recovered the bodies of three women and a child from a residential apartment in Sacchal on Abul Hassan Isphani Road.

The police found the bodies after a tip off from locals.

The bodies were later shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsies.
