KARACHI: Former mayor Niamatullah Khan said more schools in villages are needed to educate Thari children as it is their birth right. Education is very important to make the citizens of Tharparkar aware of their due rights, he said. Al-Khidmat Foundation’s Al-Ilm project in Tharparkar is based on setting up one-room Choonra [straw hut] schools to allow the new generation to attain education in Tharparkar, he added.  Khan was addressing a meeting that reviewed the progress of Al-Khidmant’s choonra school project. Tharparkar is rich in natural resources and that is why its people have been deliberately kept away from education by the land lords, he claimed. However the locals can change their destiny through education, he added.
