Youm-e-Ali: Cellphone services to be suspended in Karachi

Sindh government decides to suspend mobile phone services today from 4pm to 9pm and tomorrow from 9am to 9pm

Sindh government on Wednesday announced mobile phone services will be suspended from 4pm to 9pm in Karachi today on account of Youm-e-Ali. 

"Phone services will also remain suspended tomorrow from 9am to 9pm," a home department spokesperson said. The spokesperson added phone services will also be suspended in Sukkur and Hyderabad.

Further, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has issued directives to make security arrangements for the procession.

Earlier, the Home Department banned pillion riding in all  36 districts of the province on account of Youm-e-Ali on July 9.

A letter has been written in this regard to all district coordination officers (DCOs). The officers have also been directed to establish control rooms to monitor security. The letter states that cellular phone services might be suspended along the routes of main processions in sensitive districts.
