ISLAMABAD:

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will issue Income Tax notices, bearing verifiable barcodes, from the next financial year (2015-16).

A statement issued by the FBR on Monday said that the Income Tax notices to be issued from July 1, 2015 will be computer-generated and they will bear barcodes that can be verified from the FBR’s web portal.

To ensure that the income tax notices are genuine, taxpayers will be able to visit FBR’s portal and select the “Online Notice Verification” option. Then, they should type the given numbers with the barcode and click “search”. This will bring up the data in case of a genuine notice, it added.

In case the barcode is not confirmed from FBR’s record, the system will display an error.

In the latter case, recipients of such notices should immediately report the matter to the relevant Chief Commissioner-RTO office.

Ghulaam | 9 years ago | Reply There is no provision in the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, nor in the Income Tax Rules, 2002, that validates this specific whim of those sitting at FBR, Islamabad office, who bring changes to the tax system about daily but what they don't and won't change is the attitude of taxmen as well as rising indirect taxes/withholding income taxes. FBR should have no authority to bring changes of its liking to the tax system, without the input of a member of public, not particularly a wealthy businessman friend of FBR. Section 74 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990 is a classic example of unilateral decision-making by FBR, whereby Commissioner can leisurely apply this section in all matters where the delay is caused by his own officers and when a member of public delays a matter, he has to be penalized or beg before the Commissioner for condonation of time-limit, how is this fair? Malls all over the country are not contributing a single penny! FBR doesn't issue orders for tax surveys and media as well as the nation is being fooled by FBR that lacs of new taxpayers are being found. What a joke! What did FBR do about those pending survey orders, I wish to know? Stop fooling the nation!
