The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will issue Income Tax notices, bearing verifiable barcodes, from the next financial year (2015-16).
A statement issued by the FBR on Monday said that the Income Tax notices to be issued from July 1, 2015 will be computer-generated and they will bear barcodes that can be verified from the FBR’s web portal.
To ensure that the income tax notices are genuine, taxpayers will be able to visit FBR’s portal and select the “Online Notice Verification” option. Then, they should type the given numbers with the barcode and click “search”. This will bring up the data in case of a genuine notice, it added.
In case the barcode is not confirmed from FBR’s record, the system will display an error.
In the latter case, recipients of such notices should immediately report the matter to the relevant Chief Commissioner-RTO office.
