FAISALABAD:

A prisoner on death row was hanged in Faisalabad District Jail on Thursday. The jail superintendent told The Express Tribune that Shahid Rafiq, a resident of Fatehabad, had shot and killed his aunt Bushra Bibi and injured her son Iftikhar Ahmad in Sialkot in 1996.

He said the man had been convicted by a sessions court.

The jail SP said the Supreme Court and the president had turned down his appeals.

He said his death warrants had been issued last week.

“He was scheduled to be hanged in Gujranwala but was shifted to Faisalabad at his request. He was executed early on Thursday.” The body was handed over to his heirs for burial, the jail SP said.
