ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday Pakistan and China are 'Iron Brothers' cooperating closely in all domains with the aim to promote regional peace as well as build a better future for the people of two countries, Radio Pakistan reported.  

Addressing a delegation of Research and Development International for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), in Islamabad on Wednesday, the PM said, the economic corridor is the flagship project of the "One Belt and One Road" initiative, since both the Belt and the Road have their meeting point in Pakistan.

PM Nawaz said was confident that the agreements and the MOUs signed during the visit of the Chinese president will forge an ever stronger relationship between the two countries.

The delegation congratulated the government on achieving historic consensus on the corridor project in the recently held All Parties Conference.

The Prime Minister further stated that a parliamentary committee has also been formed to oversee the corridor project and to speed up the process of its building.

He was informed by the delegation that the research and development international plans to establish China Pakistan Information Corridor as well, in order to support and supplement the CPEC, which would be a one window operation to provide all necessary information to all.

According to the delegation, Chinese authorities are deliberating to hold China-Pakistan Economic Corridor forum every year in Karamay city of Xinjiang.

The delegation also extended an invitation to the Pakistani Prime Minister to visit Karamay and observe the special economic zone set up in the region.

PM Nawaz extends condolences

Premier Nawaz expressed shock and extended condolences to the leaders and people of China after a cruise ship capsized on China’s Yangtze river, leaving 400 people missing. 

Further, in a letter to his Chinese counterpart, Premier Li Keqiang, the Prime Minister offered his condolences on the tragedy and conveyed that the people of Pakistan shared their anguish and sorrow.

China assures successful accomplishment of Economic Corridor  

China assured all out support to Pakistan for the successful accomplishment of new avenues including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

The assurance was given by Chinese Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs on South Asia Affairs Mr Liu Jian Chao at a meeting with Chief of the Air Staff, Sohail Aman in Beijing.

On the occasion, the Air Chief asserted that this strategic cooperation would yield far-reaching economic benefits and regional security was instrumental for this purpose.

Chief Marshal Aman further emphasised on the contributions of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in eliminating terrorism from the country as he believed that PAF played a lead role in destroying terrorists' hideouts.

Air Chief Marshal also held a meeting with Vice-Chairmen Central Military Commission General Fan Changlong and discussed matters of professional interest.
