KARACHI:

Pakistan’s tennis hope Aisamul Haq Qureshi is set to play at the French Open mixed doubles quarter-finals along with Australia’s Anastasia Rodionova against second Mike Bryan and Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the US on Tuesday.

Aisam and Rodionova reached the last-eight after defeating sixth-seeded Daniel Nestor and Kristina Mladenovic 6-4, 6-3 in the second round. Earlier, Aisam and Rodionova outplayed French pair Benoit Paire and Chloe Paquet 6-3, 7-5 in the first round.

Despite his first-round exit in the men’s doubles event, Aisam believes that it is important for him to bounce back and give his all at the Grand Slam.

“I’m very excited about reaching the quarter-finals,” Aisam told The Express Tribune. “I’m looking forward to this match, it‘ll be a tough one with Mike Bryan on the other side and I’m relishing that challenge.”

Aisam added that he is confident with his game and happy with Rodionova’s performance. “It’s the first time I’ve teamed up with Anastasia, she is an experienced player and knows the game,” said the 35-year-old.

The Lahore-based player further said that despite the ups and downs in his career, he is motivated to represent Pakistan at the ATP circuit for as long as possible.
