The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility on Monday for killing a PML-N legislator, his son and an associate in an ambush in Kamoke.

"Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan special task force targeted the PML-N MPA in Gujranwala's Kamonki area killing him at the scene,” the group's spokesperson Muhammad Khorasani said.

"The TTP attackers succeeded to flee the area after the incident," Khorasani added, in a statement emailed to the media.

Khorasanai claimed that three splinter groups of the Punjabi Taliban have merged into the TTP and have increased attacks in Punjab and Sindh provinces.

The TTP has adopted a policy of targeted killing in parts of the country after they have lost control of North Waziristan following army operations in the area.

Late on Sunday, gunmen opened fire on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA from Gujranwala, Rana Shamshad, while he was returning from his farmhouse.
