The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) consolidated its gains in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa local government elections conducted a day earlier amid deadly violence, rigging allegations and poor arrangements.
According to unofficial – and some official – results available with The Express Tribune, the ruling party PTI clinched more seats than any other party or independent candidates throughout the province. Around 36 returning officers and assistant returning officers shared the following details of the results with The Express Tribune.
In Peshawar district, so far 102 candidates have been elected from 51 wards – 51 district councillors and 51 town councillors. The PTI has secured 45 district council seats, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) seven, Awami National Party (ANP) six, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) five, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) four, independent candidates three and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) one.
Of the 56 seats in Swabi district, the results of 53 have been announced: The ANP has gained ground by winning 19 of them. Independent candidates secured 10, JUI-F seven, PTI six, the Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan (AJIP) five, JI and PML-N two each and the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) one.
In Swat district, the PTI has won 24 seats, PML-N 21, independent candidates 10, ANP eight, JUI-F two, and JI and JUI-F one each.
Of the 49 wards in Bannu district, the results of 30 have been declared: JUI-F has secured 17 of them, PTI six, independent candidates four, ANP two and the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) one.
Of the 49 councils in Charsadda district, results of 47 have been declared: ANP has won 14 of them, PTI 11, QWP eight, JUI-F seven, independent candidates four and JI three.
In Hangu district, the results of 14 wards have been announced: The JUI-F has secured six of them, independent four, and PTI and ANP two each.
In Lower Dir district, the JI leads with 23 seats, followed by ANP with five, PTI four, PPP three, independent candidates two and QWP one. In Upper Dir district, the JI clinched 21 seats, PPP six and PTI two.
In Mardan, PTI and ANP secured 21 seats each, independent candidates 13, JUI-F five, PPP three and JI two. In Shangla, PML-N won 13 seats, ANP and independent candidates five each, PTI two, PPP and AJIP two each and JUI-F one.
In Karak, JUI-F secured six seats, independent candidates five, PTI three and ANP one. In Tank, PTI gained six seats, JUI-F five, independent candidates four and PPP one.
In Dera Ismail Khan, PTI won 16 seats, independent candidates nine, JUI-F eight, PPP two, and JI and ANP one each. In Lakki Marwat, JUI-F secured six seats, PPP three and PTI one.
In Nowshera district, the PTI secured 14 seats, ANP five, independent candidates three, and JI and JUI-F two each. In Kohat district, PTI and JI gained two seats each and PML-N one.
In Malakand district, the election was contested for two tehsils, Dargai and Batkhela, with 11 and 17 wards respectively. The results of 23 wards have been declared: PPP won eight of them, PTI seven, independent candidates five, JUI-F two, and JI one.
The vote bank in Malakand – once a PPP stronghold and seen as a “mini Larkana” – is apparently being split with the PTI.
Of 792 district seats, PTI has won 258, independent candidates 118, ANP 101, JUI-F 93, PML-N 85, JI 78, PPP 38, AJI seven and Pakistan Awami Tehreek a single seat in Haripur. Thirteen seats were secured by others.
