KARACHI: Known for his work in Pakistani TV serials, Imran Abbas is set to take audiences by storm on the big screen will his second Bollywood film Jaanisaar, directed by Muzaffar Ali of Umrao Jaan fame. The actor, who recently wrapped up shooting for the film, talks to The Express Tribune about his experience.

“It was brilliant [working with Ali] … almost everyone has watched Umrao Jaan and heard the movie’s songs. That film is widely appreciated in Bollywood and many actors hope to work with him,” he says. He adds that since the veteran director is making a film after several years, it is “highly anticipated.”

The actor will play the role of a prince in the movie, which is set in the background of Lucknow in 1877. Abbas’s character falls in love with a courtesan, after which, he starts seeing things from a different perspective and his loyalty to the British Empire also changes. He termed the subject of the film as ‘intelligent’, saying, “It’s important to unveil some of the secrets of history as many people don’t know about them.”

Singing Ali’s praises, Abbas shares the filmmaker has a strong vision regarding all facets of the film, from the music to the script to set design, which makes Jaanisaar a complete package. Abbas will be seen alongside fashion entrepreneur Pernia Qureshi. He states that although Pernia will make her debut with the film, people may not get that impression. “When audiences will see the film and her performance, they will notice how authentic and tailor-made she is for the role,” he notes.

According to Abbas, the best thing about his latest movie is that it’s different from the commercial Bollywood offerings these days. “The movie had international crew as people from Hollywood and Italy were part of the film. Even the poster of Jaanisaar has been designed in Hollywood. A lot of attention-to-detail has been paid,” shares Abbas, who was seen opposite Bipasha Basu in Creature 3D.
