RAWALPINDI: A special desk to facilitate senior citizens, special persons and infants would soon be operational at Rawalpindi Passport Office, said office in-charge assistant director Imtiaz Abbasi. The decision was made in order to mitigate the grievances of those who are unable to wait in long queues, he said. “All formalities have been finalised and the desk will start operating as soon as we get a biometric machine from Islamabad,” he said on Tuesday. The passport office, constructed on land acquired from Pakistan Railways in 2013, can hardly accommodate 200 persons while the daily turnover is around 700 to 900 and the process time of each application is around four to six hours. Hence, the remaining visitors are bound to stay outside the building.
