PESHAWAR: Local government candidates of Sheikhan union council-58 have demanded the government deploy security officials for the polls.

“The government will be responsible if any untoward incident occurs in UC-58,” said village council candidate Jehangir Khan, addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Friday. Khan said UC Sheikhan is close to the tribal belt and prone to a possible attack.

LG candidates Amjad Khan, Muhammad Ayaz, Zainab and Shahida were also present on the occasion. Candidates Zainab and Shahida were of the view that the polling station for women has been set-up at a distance from the village which will make it difficult for voters to make it to the booth.

“The situation is not the most welcoming for women candidates. I will work for the rights of women if I am elected,” said Zainab. “We will boycott the polling process if women police officials are not deployed at our polling stations,” she added.
