Provincial autonomy: Rabbani warns against rollback

He said he has given recommendations to the prime minister

LAHORE: Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani has said that rolling back provincial autonomy will produce dangerous results. He said powers were devolved to the provinces under the 18th Constitutional Amendment, but implementation was very slow. He was talking to reporters at a media training session jointly organised by the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors, Punjab Higher Education Commission and UNDP. The previous government of PPP and the current PML-N government dragged their feet in implementing the 18th Amendment, Rabbani said. He said a visible change has occurred in the attitude of the parliamentarians in the last two months. “Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been coming to Senate for the last two months and ministers are also attending the sessions,” the Senate chairman said. He said he has given recommendations to the prime minister and the chief ministers to make history by making the Constitution part of the curriculum.
