MADRID: The end to this year’s La Liga season has been thrown into doubt after the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced on Wednesday that it intends to suspend all competitions from May 16 after a dispute with the Spanish government over a new law introduced to regulate the sale of television rights worsened.

The suspension could affect the end to the La Liga season with the penultimate round of fixtures due to take place on May 17.

The RFEF threatened in a statement it will "suspend competitions of all categories starting from May 16 indefinitely".

"At the same time, once more we reiterate the RFEF is open to dialogue with the Spanish government."
