Watering Mohmand Rs4.9b to be spent on dams and irrigation

Around Rs2 million allocated as funds for differently-abled people

GHALLANAI: Apart from announcing Rs4.9 billion for the construction of five smalls dams and six irrigation channels in Mohmand Agency, Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan said Rs2 million would be utilised as endowment fund for differently-abled people in Fata.

He made this announcement while talking to delegations of the Pakistan Association for the Blind (PAB) and Mohmand Youth Assembly (MYA) on Tuesday. Mehtab said Fata had suffered immensely due to militancy and schools, colleges, health institutes and the entire infrastructure had been destroyed.

He added the relation between the state and tribespeople had been jeopardised as a result of these unwanted developments and the aim is to mend ties. He reiterated the government was committed to battling militancy to the very end.



The governor announced Rs.2 million as a grant and five computers for Mohmand Press Club. He said funds in Fata had been misused in the past and the first priority was good governance. Strict security measures were in place for Mehtab’s visit. He also visited Mohmand marble city in Michni and inspected Nahqi Tunnel. Nahqi Tunnel is being constructed at an estimated cost of about Rs750 million and will connect Ghallanai with Bajaur.
