DI KHAN: Awami National Party’s DI Khan President Shahab Khan announced his party’s decisions to walk out of the tripartite alliance.

Speaking to journalists at the party’s office on Wednesday, Khan said ANP candidates in DI Khan will now contest the local bodies’ elections at all union councils in DI Khan in accordance with its own policies.

“ANP is no longer a part of the tripartite alliance,” the district president said. “The conduct of the other parties in the alliance is to blame for our decision. The JUI-F and PPP have repeatedly tried to push ANP against the wall.”

The tripartite alliance of three opposition parties in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly – JUI-F, PPP, ANP – was revived earlier this year. All three parties had decided to contest the local bodies’ polls in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on a joint electoral symbol.

However, a fissure was observed in the tripartite alliance in Tank district when ANP decided to part ways on April 14. ANP Tank President Fazal Karim had said the decision was prompted by the failure to negotiate seat adjustment with JUI-F and PPP as the ANP was only offered seats in Union Council City I.

ANP’s separation from the alliance in Tank and DI Khan is likely to have an impact on local bodies’ elections scheduled for May 30.
