KARACHI: Former amateur world champion Muhammad Asif recorded his second win in the 31st ACBS Asian Snooker Championship as he beat Iraq’s Ali Hussain Ali 4-0 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
After losing a group match a day earlier, the veteran bounced back to improve his chances of qualifying for the next round.
A determined Asif was in no mood to grant any concessions as he won against Ali in straight frames with scores of 88-21, 59-12, 78-27 and 64-01.
In another match, Shahram Changezi succumbed to his first loss in the event as he was pipped 4-3 by Iran’s Heydarinezhad Ehsan.
Shahram raced to a 2-0 lead, lost the third frame and won the next one. However, that was all the cueist could manage as Ehsan won the following three frames on the trot, wrapping up the match in his favour with scores of 17-99(79), 26-70(70), 78-64, 17-101(80), 69-04, 73-14 and 115-0.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association President Alamgir Sheikh will be travelling to Malaysia to attend the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) board meeting, which is scheduled to be held on Tuesday.
Discussions about preparations relating to the upcoming IBSF World 6-Red and Team Championship in Pakistan will be a part of the meeting.
The official will also attend the board meeting of the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports, which is scheduled for Wednesday.
