The Rawalpindi district administration will carry out a five-day campaign to raise public awareness of mother and child healthcare from April 27. EDO Finance and Planning Talat Mehmood Gondal on Monday reviewed arrangements for the campaign.


Gondal said lady health workers (LHWs) would go door-to-door and educate women about their health and preventive measures they should take, especially during pregnancy, delivery and for the infant’s health.


He said LHWs will educate women about the importance of breast-feeding to newborns, at least for the first six months.


Besides awareness, children will be vaccinated against polio, measles, diphtheria, tetanus and hepatitis-B


Besides, children between two to five years of age would be given de-worming medicines while polio, measles, diphtheria, tetanus, hepatitis-B, tuberculosis, and pneumococcal conjugate vaccine.


At the meeting on Monday, Gondal also underlined the need for effective utilisation of available resources for the campaign.


District Programme Coordinator Dr Javaid Iqbal said folic acid tablets would also be given to pregnant women to overcome food deficiency along with tetanus injections.
