An anti-terrorism court on Saturday sentenced two men to 16 years imprisonment after they were convicted of injuring a policeman in a shootout.


Prosecution said a Gojra City police team had raided a house on January 5 to arrest Shehbaz, Farhan and Imran, wanted for several robberies.

They said the men attacked the police team, injuring a constable. Shehbaz and Farhan were arrested but Imran managed to flee, they added.

ATC judge Raja Parvaiz Akhtar awarded seven years imprisonment and fined Shehbaz and Farhan Rs100,000 under Section 324 (attempted murder) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

The convicts were also handed another seven years imprisonment and fined Rs100,000 under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). They were handed down another two years imprisonment and fined Rs20,000 under Section 353 of the PPC.

The convicts would undergo an additional imprisonment of nine months each if they failed to pay fine.
