After covering almost 8,000 kilometres, across over 40 districts, the month-long Wheat Travelling Seminar (WTS) 2015 concluded on Wednesday.


The concluding session of the seminar was held at the University of Agriculture Peshawar which, chaired by vice chancellor of the varsity Dr Zahoor A Swati Several recommendations were presented by scientists part of the seminar, aimed at improving the wheat crop. Scientists recommended strengthening of provincial seed production system, revival of the Sindh Seed Corporation, development of production technology for rice belt of Punjab and capacity building of farmers to maintain their own seeds.


They also suggested private companies to multiply the seeds of recommended varieties only and discontinue cultivation of pre-approved and susceptible varieties.


Speaking on the occasion, Swati said that the seminar provided the scientists an opportunity to observe wheat crop across the country and work for its development.
