PESHAWAR:

The military claims to have killed at least 15 militants in ground action against militants in Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency on Saturday.

“A group of about 30-35 terrorists was observed forming near a post in Mastak sub-sector in Tirah. Troops on the post valiantly engaged terrorists and surrounded them,” the military’s media wing, the ISPR, said in a statement.

An intense gunfight ensued that left 15 militants dead and many more injured, it added. The militants fled the scene leaving behind the bodies of their 10 fellow fighters and a cache of arms and ammunition.

Security forces retrieved the bodies and took them to the Shakas Levies Centre for identification. No one came to claim the bodies and subsequently the local administration buried them. Officials confirmed that three soldiers were also injured in the clash. They were subsequently airlifted to the CMH.
