Overstepping Authority: Court to take up case against ASI

LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge fixed for hearing on April 4 a petition accusing an assistant sub inspector of Defence B police station of submitting unauthorised comments before court.  At a previous hearing, the judge had sought comments from Defence B police on Abid Hussain Baitoo’s petition seeking a case against five nominated and 10 unnamed people for removing him from a bungalow he had obtained on mortgage. ASI Rafaqat Ali had submitted comments in support of the petitioner. Counsel for the accused had objected to the comments, asking who had assigned him to submit the comments.  The court had then again sought comments from the Defence B SHO. The SHO told the court that Ali had not been asked to submit the comments. The SHO said he had not been taken into confidence by Ali before he submitted the comments. He said Ali had not been authorised to submit the comments.
