Contractors working on the Islamabad-Rawalpindi metro bus have assured the authorities on Wednesday that they would complete pending work on the project by April 15.
In a review meeting at the Rawalpindi commissioner’s office, headed by Metro Bus Scheme (MBS) Chairperson Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, contractors working on package-II of Rawalpindi promised to complete pending work by April 10, while the contractors for package-V in Islamabad assured they would finish up by April 15.
The contractors also assured the commissioner and MBS chairperson that remaining work on bus stations would also be completed by mid-April.
After the completion of work, a summary would be sent to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and a date would be fixed for inauguration. Other contractors have already completed their work and informed the authorities.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Abbasi said that changes in the project including installation of escalators and elevators, a change in the size of stations, and the use of glass, had caused the delays. “Changes were added later with the intent of providing extra facilities and relief to people. There are no escalators and elevators at the Lahore metro bus stations,” he said.
Abbasi said that the remaining work on the stations would be completed by April 10 to 15. Besides, test runs in Islamabad would be carried out from Peshawar Mor to D-Chowk on March 28.
The MBS authority has assigned metro bus stations to various district departments, colleges and universities for beautification. The authorities have also assigned themes to the departments and institutions.
NCA Director Nadeem Umar Tarar said that NCA would decorate the station assigned to it with cultural and historic themes of the city in pictures and highlight its landscape.
FJWU Vice-Chancellor Dr Samina Amin Qadir said that they would choose a theme on their own.
